James Charnley Preston joiner - hading doors and fitting locks and furniture

Doors

Hanging doors is a frequent joinery task and the technique is pretty much the same for every type of door - interior or exterior doors, flush doors, fire doors panel doors and glazed doors. They all need to fit in the frame exactly while opening and shutting without obstruction with allowance made for movement of the wood due to moisture. Exterior doors and bathrooms are particularly prone to movement and three hinges are recommended. All doors have latches and locks to fit and some have additional door furniture such as closers or security devices. Note that the procedure for hanging a door correctly is fairly involved with little allowance for mistakes. It is made easier by having professional equipment and plenty of experience.
